Makinizi Hoover Makinizi Hoover Burke grads tapped for UGA scholarships

Two college students from Burke County were selected for scholarships through the University of Georgia’s College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

Burke County High School graduate Makinizi Hoover will receive the Lawrence B. and Mary Katherine B. Burk Scholarship for the 2015-2016 school year. She is the daughter of Marie and Andrew Westerman of Waynesboro.

Edmund Burke Academy graduate Meridith Franks has won the Jim Andrew Family Foundation Scholarship for the 2015- 2016 school year. She is the daughter of Jimmy and Ginny Franks of Waynesboro.

Each year the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) at the University of Georgia awards scholarships to eligible students enrolled in majors within the college. Funding for scholarships comes from a diverse assortment of sources and donors and is offered to help with college-related expenses.


Meridith Franks Meridith Franks GSU Dean’s List

Three Burke County residents have been named to Georgia Southern University’s Dean List for the 2015 summer semester. They include Joseph Schenk of Midville, and Chiquita Stone and Reginald Williams, both of Waynesboro. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have at least a 3.5 grade point average and carry a minimum of 12 hours for the semester.
