An Augusta man had a sobering experience in the Burke County Jail. The trip to Waynesboro began with an ambulance ride for Bryant Lofton, 46, after he was collected from the shoulder of the road where he had passed out. He was still drunk on arrival, and deputies were dispatched to Burke Medical Center after an irate Lofton cursed at the nurses. According to the report, he was steadily sipping from a coke bottle containing alcohol while officers were attempting to talk to him. Lofton was arrested after he tried to slam an officer with the exam room door.

A late night prowler had romance on his mind. Deputies were dispatched to Campbell Circle in Hephzibah after a man began knocking on the door and demanding to be let inside. When the homeowner told him he had no business there, the late night visitor accused him of “messing up a booty call.”Eventually, the visitor “staggered” to a nearby house where he was let inside.

An unknown thief took advantage of a Girard man who was under the influence of moonshine. The victim told deputies he drank too much at a cookout and eventually passed out in the yard. When he awoke from his spirit-induced snooze, his wallet was upside down in his pocket and $180 was missing. According to the report, the man recalled a pre-nap fight with several partygoers he did not know.
