Perkins man charged in stabbing

By Elizabeth Billips

A Perkins man is accused of breaking into a camper and stabbing the man inside.

According to Burke County deputies, Zachery Sapp, 21, was jailed Tuesday afternoon on felony charges including aggravated assault and burglary in the first degree.

Around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to the camper on Old Sardis Road where they found the victim, 38-year-old Jamie Chambers, with deep lacerations to his arms.

“Sapp basically broke in, threatened to kill Chambers and then cut him with a knife several times,” Chief Investigator Sgt. Dedric Smith said, noting Chambers appeared to have used his arms to block the blade. “The lacerations were not life-threatening but they were very deep – one was down to the bone.”

According to the report, Chambers had been in the camper with Sapp’s former girlfriend and the mother of his children.

“He is very jealous,” the woman told deputies.
