Burke Medical to host community event Saturday

By Anne Marie Kyzer

The battle against a silent killer will gain momentum in Waynesboro this weekend.

The third annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Health Fair will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Burke Medical Center.

The event honors those who have fought the disease and raises funds for research to fight it.

Tammie Salter and the rest of the team in Burke Medical Center’s radiology department have spent months planning the two-mile walk and the balloon release to honor individuals who’ve been affected by breast cancer.

Salter pointed out that everyone knows someone with this disease.

“We would love to see lots of people out walking for this cause,” she said.

Everyone who participates in the walk will receive a breast cancer awareness tshirt, a bag with a pin and a memory balloon.

The health fair is open to all who attend and will offer plenty of information and a host of free health tests. Children will also find activities and games planned just for them.

Registration forms are available at Burke Medical and Southern Bank. The cost to participate in the walk is $20 and group rates are available. For more information, call 706-437-2673.
