Sergeant Kirkland Lewis, Jr.

Sergeant Kirkland Lewis, Jr. was born January 14, 1941 in Millen, Georgia to the late Kirkland Lewis Sr., & Theresa W. Lewis. He was the oldest of seven children. He transcended from this life to his heavenly home Tuesday July 15, 2014 in Stone Mountain, Ga.

Kirk was educated in Jenkins and Burke Counties; Cousins and Perkins Elementary schools, and attended the Burgess Landrum High School and later graduating from the Blakeney High School, Waynesboro, Georgia in 1958. He continued his education at Savannah State College, Savannah, Georgia and on to the United States Army.

Kirk enjoyed the Army and served for a period of 22 years. While in the Army he traveled extensively from Georgia to Germany, Korea, Viet Nam (twice), Fort Leonard Missouri and etc. When returning to the states he became a Recruiting Sergeant in Lancaster, Pa. and recruited many young men to the armed forces.

He was a faithful member of Carswell Grove Baptist Church, Perkins, Ga., until his death. He believed as Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthened me.”

He leaves to mourn; his wife Rosa; his three children, James (Colette), Janett, and stepdaughter Sonia Shockley; two brothers, Palmer of Perkins, Ga., Leon (Pam) of Silver Springs, Md.; four sisters; Claudia L. Simmons (Jimmy) of Downingtown, Pa., Theresa E. Lewis, Diane P. Lewis, and Vinita L. Schoultz of Augusta, Ga.; one grandson, five nieces, seven nephews, seven grandnieces and nephews and a host of cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at Carswell Grove Baptist Church, 1365 Big Buckhead Church Road, Perkins, Ga. 30822, on Saturday, July 26 at 11:00 a.m.
