Lions Club The Waynesboro Lions Club will meet, 5:30 p.m., Thursday Oct. 25th 5:30 pm at Mobley’s Cafeteria. All members and those interested in joining are encouraged to attend.

Coffee and Wilderness

Georgia Wilderness Outfitters, located at 120 North Main Street in Sylvania, will have a customer appreciation day, beginning 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 27. The store will give out free coffee all day, as well as discounts on Konus products, which range from riflescopes and electronic dot sights to binoculars.

Flower Show The Burkeland Garden Club, in cooperation with the City of Waynesboro’s Department of Community Development, will host the Colors of Fall standard flower show 2-5 p.m., Oct. 26 and 9 a.m.-noon, Oct. 27, at the Waynesboro Ice Plant. Design entries are invitation only, but horticulture entries are welcome if entered by Monday, Oct. 22. The show is free and open to the public. Head Start In recognition of Head Start Awareness Month, Burke County Head Start will host a program at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24 at its center at 518 College Street (old Blakeney). Refreshments will be served and the children will provide a program. Burke County Head Start serves 85 local three-year-old children, providing educational, health, nutritional and social services.

Health Seminar Jones Grove Baptist Church, located at 182 Hickson Road, Midville, will host a Health Seminar, 9 a.m.- noon, Saturday, October 27. There will be free screenings and presentations, including Cancer Facts & Education/ Healthy Living (speaker Alquita Dent) “Let’s Talk, Girls” (ages 9-15 with speaker Bobbie Jones) and “Let’s Talk, Boys” (ages 9-15 Minister Wendell Smith). The public is invited.

Speir’s Turnout Festival The 21st Annual Speir’s Turnout Festival will be held in downtown Bartow, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27. There will be art and crafts, home cooking, great raffle prizes and all-day entertainment all day. Vendors should contact Bartow City Hall at 478-364-3300.

Planning for College Workshop Blakeney Elementary School will host a Parent Involvement Workshop for all Burke County Public School parents and guardians, 5-6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30. This informational seminar on the importance of saving for college is sponsored by the Path2College 529 Plan. For more information, contact Linda Habersham, BES Parent Coordinator, at 706-554-0840.

Blood Drive Shepeard Community Blood Center will hold a drive, 1-5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Wardlow Building, located at West Seventh Street and Academy Avenue in Waynesboro. Donor will be entered for a chance to win a Visa gift card. Each donation will save three local lives.
