Deputies search for ATM thieves

By Elizabeth Billips

Burke County deputies are trying to identify three burglars who made off with an ATM.

Officers were summoned around 10 p.m. Saturday night after an out-of-town hunter spotted the men outside C&J Con- venience Store on River Road.

“He saw their truck backed up to the front of the business,” Sgt. Dan Lowe said, noting the plexiglass storefront was broken out with a baseball bat. “Then he watched them push the ATM out the door and load it into the truck.”

The storeowner reported the machine contained $3,000 to $3,500. Nothing else was taken.

The entire burglary was recorded on the store’s security cameras, and footage is currently being reviewed by investigators.

Sgt. Lowe said the burglars were three white men in a fourdoor silver Dodge Ram, believed to be an early to mid-2000s model.

While officers have not yet identified the men, they have been following several leads.
