Marchman swings to top of tour

A Burke County eighth grader is making a name for herself at golf events across the state. Rylie Marchman, who has practically grown up on the course at Waynesboro Country Club, won an event on the Georgia Junior Golf Tour last weekend at Highland Walk Golf Course in Royston. The hard-fought win came after a playoff against Lauren Lightfritz of Suwannee. The win marked her second straight on the tour, which she leads in points for her division, girls ages 12-13. Rylie has played in six of the tournaments, consistently placing among the top. She was also recently invited to play on the Augusta Area Junior Golf Association’s all-star team in a tournament in St. Simon’s later this month. She was only one of two girls chosen to represent Augusta in her division. Rylie, far right, is pictured with her trophy at Highland Walk, which is located at Victoria Bryant State Park.
