The Lady Bears packed up their gear last weekend, calling an end to the 2011 softball season.

Despite finishing up the regular season with a region win at home over Butler, two loses to Harlem in the first round of the region tournament on Saturday took them off the bracket.

The Lady Bears beat Butler 10- 1 to even their record to 10-10 overall and 3-2 in the Region 3- AAA South. Amber Hills picked up her ninth win of the season. The team was led at the plate by Bailee Adkins, Nicole Rachels, Laurie Askew and Hills as all had clutch hits in the home finale.

On Saturday, the Lady Bears fought the traffic in Harlem and the Laurel and Hardy festival parade.

“The Lady Bears needed Hardy on the mound,” head coach Larry Keller said, pointing to the powerful Lady Bulldogs’ 9-0 and 16- 1 wins to advance to the region semi-finals.

The Lady Bears got hits from Darian Johnson and Askew.

Coach Keller applauded his players’ contributions this season.

“The team won four more games than the year before,” Coach Keller said, adding that the team could make even bigger strides next season as they will lose only one player to graduation.
