Santa at Healthy Start

Santa will be at the Healthy Start Office, located in the Health Department in Waynesboro, 9:30-10:30 a.m., Monday, Dec. 22.

Bring you little one and they can have the picture taken with the big guy.

Coat Drive

Free Indeed Ministries will hold a coat drive through Dec. 15. Drop-off locations will be at attorney Jackson Cox’s office, located at the corner of Seventh and Liberty streets, Monday-Friday; or Free Indeed Crisis Center (old Goldberg’s storage) on Shadrack Street, Saturdays, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Adopt-A-Child Day

CSRA-EOA Burke County Head Start will host its 15th annual Adopt-A-Child Day 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, at 518 College Street in Waynesboro.

If you are interested in adopting a child, please contact Willie Mae Cooper, Darlene Miller, Darlene Bray or Catina Thomas at the center at 706-554-2140. You may continue to contact your Adopt-A-Child through May 27, 2011. Donations are welcome.

Diabetic Teaching

A free diabetic teaching class will be held 6-8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, at Burke County Medical Center. Limited space is available. You are asked to call the hospital to reserve a spot for the class at 706-554-4435 and ask for the Dietary Department.

You are encouraged to bring the person that does food preparation.


The Waynesboro Toastmasters Club will meet 5 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 12, at Westminster Presbyterian Church. This is the final meeting of the year, and the annual Speech-o-Rama will be held, in which each member will deliver a five to seven minute speech. The public is invited.

24th D.A.R.E


The 24th annual D.A.R.E. graduation will be held 9 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 9, in the Blakeney Elementary School cafetorium. Guest speakers will be past graduates of the D.A.R.E. program.



The Richmond/Burke Job Training Authority will offer an Industrial Construction Pre- Apprenticeship Training Program Orientation 1:30-3 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Augusta Technical College Waynesboro/ Burke Campus. Orientations last approximately 15 minutes and will be repeated as often as needed.
