Burke County High School took top honors at a track meet last Thursday against two of its neighbors, Jenkins and Jefferson counties.

The Lady Bears’ point total was more than both of the other schools combined. They scored 100 points to Jenkins’ 67 and Jefferson’s 24.

The boys won handily as well, collecting a total of 84 points compared to Jenkins’ 54 and Jefferson’s 39. Thomson also competed in the boys’ meet and scored 17.

“This was a good meet for us coming off of spring break,” head coach Purvis Dukes said. “We conditioned the kids hard on Monday and Tuesday and really needed a competitive meet as we approach the region meets. The kids are really competing, and we have been impressed with their improvements in certain areas. ”

The Region 3-AAA meets will be held over the next couple of weekends and hosted by Burke County. The girls will compete Friday and Saturday, April 16 and 17, and the boys will compete next Friday and Saturday, April 23 and 24.
