Blanchard, Gandy reach state semifinals

By Tres Bragg

For the second year in a row Wilson Blanchard is advancing to the final four in state tennis. But this time, with a different partner.

Blanchard and double’s partner Colby Gandy, just an eighthgrader, advanced to the GISA Class-AA state final four in ten- nis on Monday after taking out a No. 1 and No. 2 seed. During their first match, they shut out the No. 2 seeded Arlington Christian team 6-0, 6-0. Blanchard and Gandy, the No. 3 seed from region 2 faced a No. 1 seed during the quarterfinal round and had no trouble defeating them. They beat the Monsignor Donovan team 6-3, 6-2 and earned a berth in the semifinals.

Blanchard played for the state championship last year with partner Jim Sandeford but settled for the runner-up position. He and Gandy will take a shot at the state title Monday at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center in Macon.
