Lady Cubs grab region title
      Burke County Middle School has another trophy to add to its case. The Lady Cubs have nabbed the Coastal Empire Region Championship title on the basketball court. After going 6-2 during the regular season, the girls defeated South Effingham 47-17 for the region trophy. The BCMS girls are coached by Larrell Lewis and Mia Lakes.

Bears bounce two more region teams
      The Bears are on fire and hope it spreads into the weekend. Burke County High School’s boys basketball team (12-3) picked up two more region wins last week against Baldwin and Richmond Hill. The victories marked the second time the Bears have beaten each of those teams.

Wrestling: Bears head to region traditional
      Burke County High School’s wrestlers will try to make state for a second time this season. The Bears (33-5) will compete this weekend against wrestlers from across Region 3-AAA for a shot at the next level as individuals. The Bears made the state duals last month as a team for the first time in the history of Burke County’s program.

Bears fundraisers set for Feb. 13, 15
Play ball!
      The Bears will hit the field for funds next week. Burke County High School’s baseball team will play its annual 100-inning game Saturday, Feb. 13, to raise money for team uniforms, practice shirts, hats, belts and other apparel for the upcoming season. The game will begin at 9 a.m.

Spartans struggle on senior night
      Senior night wasn’t capped off with a win for the Spartans last Friday. Edmund Burke Academy (10- 7, 2-6) was held to 32 points in what was their last home game of the season. The Curtis Baptist Crusaders dealt Edmund Burke the 61-32 loss after leading by only 6 points at halftime.

     Ansley Crenshaw, daughter of Joe and Sue Crenshaw of Marietta, signed a full four-year swimming/academic scholarship with Eastern Michigan University.
