Local dairy receives award
      Burke County is well known for producing cotton, peanuts, corn and other row crops. More recently attention is being drawn to dairy production in the area. Burke County has nine dairies that represent slightly more than 14 percent of the $84.2 million total farm gate income. Not only do we have a growing dairy industry, we have some top quality producers as well.

Burke County 4-Her’s compete in Elbert County Commercial Dairy Show
      Three Burke County 4-H members participated in the ninth annual Elbert County Commercial Dairy Heifer Show on Jan. 23. This year’s show saw 115 youth entering 153 dairy heifers. Students competed in weight classes based on their animal’s size. Exhibitors also participated in a showmanship class highlighting the 4-Her’s skills.
