Burke Happenings Retired Educators The Burke County Retired Educators Association will meet 3 p. m., Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Burke County Senior Citizens Center. All members are encouraged to be present to celebrate Heart Month. Haiti relief effort The Burke County High School Interact Club is collecting funds for the Haiti Relief effort for the next two weeks. All proceeds will go to the Samaritan’s Purse Organization, as it has teams in place already and is listed as one of the “safe” donation organizations. Genealogical & Historical Society The Burke County Genealogical and Historical Society will meet 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, at the Burke County Library. The guest speaker, Emma Williams, will talk about black genealogy as it pertains to her search for her roots. The public is invited to attend. Super Bowl Party A Super Bowl party will be held 6 p.m.-until at the American Legion Post #270, located on Highway 80. There will be a free “Super Bowl” buffet all night and prizes will be given out. The public is invited. Thespian Society The Burke County High School Thespian Society will present A Midsummer Night’s Dream 7 p.m., Feb. 11-12 and 2 p.m., Feb. 13, in the J.D. Smith Auditorium. Admission is $5. BCHS school council The Burke County High School school council will meet 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the BCHS conference room. |
