The first shipment of 200 injectable doses arrived last Tuesday and were given out by the end of the day, according to nurse manager Gina Richardson. Another 500 doses were received last Wednesday and around 200 doses are still available. Others opted to receive the vaccine, which is administered at no cost, on their own as a precaution. Richardson said the rush to get the vaccine resulted simply from word of mouth. The health department had not yet had a chance to advertise H1N1 clinics before being inundated with customers. The vaccine is still only available to priority groups, including pregnant women, caregivers of children under 6 months of age, healthcare workers, persons ages 6 months to 24 years and patients ages 25-64 with chronic health conditions. Richardson said additional shipments of the vaccine are expected but she is not sure when they might arrive. More ...
