Crime forum draws questions, concerns
      Nearly 100 residents turned out for a crime forum last week, asking everything from where stolen guns were being sold to whether it's legal to shoot a burglar. The forum, which was hosted by the Burke County circuit of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, also drew Augusta news media and a number of law enforcement officers and elected officials.

      A former combat pilot was hospitalized after his homebuilt aircraft was taken out by mechanical problems and pine trees in northern Burke County.

Student arrested for bringing gun to school
      A Burke County High School student was arrested after a drug sniffing canine led officers to a gun and ammunition in his parked vehicle. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, Jerrell Demond Kelly, 20, was jailed around 10 a.m. Monday following what began as a routine search of the school campus.

      Waynesboro Police The following arrests and citations were reported by the Waynesboro Police Department for the past week: Monday, Nov. 2 • Shonda Shonta Herndon, 28, of Magnolia Acres, Waynesboro, was arrested for no driver's license, no insurance and operating a vehicle with suspended, cancelled or revoked registration.

      Medi-fraud Senior citizens are getting scammed by criminals pretending to be Medicare employees. According to Sgt. Matt Raulerson, an investigator for the Burke County Sheriff's Office, an unknown caller is telling residents that President Obama has created a new Medicare plan and that patient information must be verified before a new card can be issued.

West indicted for molesting child
Ex-cop charged with theft
      The Superior Court Grand Jury has indicted 28 defendants, including a convicted murderer arrested for molesting a little girl, a former police officer accused of padding his paycheck, two suspected drug traffickers and six suspects implicated in recent burglaries.

Missing teen found
      A Waynesboro teenager who was missing for three days has been found. According to Major Mary Bennett of the Waynesboro Police Department, 15-yearold Jeremiah Davis, who had been missing since Sunday, was found at Briarwood Apartments late Tuesday night.

      More than 80 representatives of law enforcement, electric and telecommunications utilities, agriculture and agribusiness, district attorneys, homebuilders and recyclers/ scrap dealers gathered in middle Georgia recently to address the surge of metal thefts across the state of Georgia.
