No good. Those are the words Edmund Burke wanted to hear after Robert Toombs lined up for the game tying field goal. And, that's exactly what they heard. Last Friday, the Spartans knocked off the No. 1 ranked Crusaders and improved to 5-0 for the season, 1-0 in region play, with a game that came down to the wire. More ... It was déjà vu the Bears could have done without. In their first region game of the season, Burke County High School fell to the only team in 3-AAA to beat them last year, Baldwin High from Milledgeville. The Braves walked away with a 28-14 win, and the Bears' hopes of going undefeated in the region this year. More ... The Edmund Burke Academy Lady Spartans sealed fourth place in Region 2-AA and are headed to the region tournament. The tournament will be double elimination, and Edmund Burke's first opponent will be the No. 1 team in the state, Arlington Christian. Festivities for the 40th Homecoming of Edmund Burke Academy began this week with Pajama Day on Monday and Generation Day on Tuesday. Dress-up days for the remainder of the week include Camouflage Day (Wednesday), Twin Day (Thursday) and Freaky Red and White Day (Friday). The week will be capped off with the crowning of the 2009 Homecoming Queen during halftime of Friday night's game against Curtis Baptist. High school classes will perform skits at their pep rally on Friday before returning to their homeroom to cast their vote for queen. Class banners will be judged that evening during the football game. The 2009 Homecoming Court parade will begin at 7 p.m. Kickoff will immediately follow. More ... Matthew Rocker spent last year training with the best and preparing to play college golf. His efforts paid off, and he recently signed a golf scholarship with Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College (ABAC) in Tifton. Rocker, the 19-year-old son of King and Beth Rocker of Millen, graduated from Edmund Burke Academy in May 2008. More ... The Wilson brothers are continuing to post solid finishes for Edmund Burke's cross country team. Freshman Clay Wilson finished first at last Monday's meet at Bulloch Academy. He beat out 36 other runners with a time of 18:48. He nearly won his second race in a row just five days later but his brother Kyle returned from injury to beat him to the finish line. More ... |
