WPS Math Competition
      Waynesboro Primary School Students participated in the second annual Math Challenge on Sept. 24 and 25. Students were chosen by their classroom teacher based on mathematical knowledge, ability and citizenship.

EBA students qualify for Duke's talent program
      A dozen Edmund Burke Academy seventh graders have qualified for Duke University's Talent Identification Program (TIP), which identify verbally and mathematically talented students at an early age. This program is designed for seventh graders and offers them the opportunity take the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) or to take the American College Test (ACT).

BES students assist MCG in study
     For the past two years, a portion of Blakeney Elementary School fifthgrade students have been participating in a study through MCG to test the effects of nicotine on children. The WIN Study (Working In uNison to Prevent Substance Abuse SAMHSA through Georgia Department of Public Health) examines the impact of a family approach for tobacco control with goals of preventing tobacco initiation in fourth- and fifth-grade children and promoting anti-drug socialization in the home by parents. The purpose of this randomized control clinical trial is to evaluate the effects of a multi-component intervention aimed at: 1) preventing tobacco initiation in youth; 2) promoting anti-tobacco socialization in the home; and 3) promoting successful cessation in parent/ guardian smokers. On Thursday, Sept. 24, the program concluded with a Family Night Celebration. MCG research assistants Jenni Mosley and Sheree Cartee were on hand to collect saliva from parents which would identify how much exposure they'd had to nicotine or second-hand smoke during the week. MCG provided pizza, drinks and completion certificates to students.
