UGA GRADUATES The University of Georgia announced 2009 summer graduates this week, including two Burke County students. President Tommy Battle said the newest addition will allow the company to cover the area in a more effective and timely manner. Southeast Homecare and Respiratory Services carries a complete line of home hospital equipment and provides delivery and setup as well. In addition to area manager Wendy Thompson and location manager Wiley McClain, a staff of respiratory therapists, customer service representatives, and service and delivery technicians will also serve customers. "We are excited about opening in Waynesboro and serving Burke and surrounding counties," Battle said. "With Waynesboro having a newly expanded hospital and an outstanding group of doctors, we are looking forward to being a part of this community." More ... Plenty of beef was for dinner at the annual Burke County Cattlemen's Association cookout held last Tuesday. The event, hosted at Mile and Ester Hege's farm near Midville, brought together dozens of local cattle producers and their families for fellowship and industry education. Tim Dean, of Steer Inc., spoke to the crowd about a program that allows farmers to raise cattle that are sold to support missionaries. Robert Ray and Company will be on stage as part of the Burke County Series as they present "Johnny Mercer … Too Marvelous for Words." The show is a tribute to the great American lyricist Johnny Mercer on his 100th anniversary. The production stars Ray, Marsha Dupree and Shawn Megorden, plus a 5-piece onstage orchestra and will feature some of Mercer's best loved hits like Goody Goody, You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby, Fools Rush In, Blues in the Night and Moon River. The high energy show, which was a nine-week sellout in Atlanta, has already been a hit at Georgia Music Hall of Fame, Highlands Playhouse and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival in Charleston.
