Two arrested for burglaries
Two more wanted
      Two people have been arrested for burglary, and two more are wanted. Melissa Rose Clark, 42, was jailed Saturday after Waynesboro police investigators identified her and 48-year-old Andrew "Monkey" Farmer in security footage from an August 17 burglary at Burkehaven Corner Store on West Sixth Street.

      You don't say Burke County Road Department employees have reclaimed a stolen sign. Last week, deputies escorted employees to a Blount Chapel Road home where a sign had been recycled for personal use. The homeowner said two guys, one known only as Rabbit, gave him the sign and he had taken them without realizing it was stolen or that it was illegal to post it in his yard.

Siblings recovering from Hwy. 56 collision
      Two Midville brothers involved in a Highway 56 head-on collision are recovering at home while their sister remains hospitalized in Augusta. Kelsey Bradley, 11, and her brothers, Justin, 17, and Lane, 9, were hospitalized last Monday morning after their truck veered into the path of an oncoming van near Rosier Road.

      The following arrests and citations were reported by the Waynesboro Police Department for the past week: Tuesday, Aug. 18 • Alex Larenzo Roberts, 26, of Pecan Chase, Waynesboro, was arrested for no driver's license, no insurance, failure to stop at a stop sign and operating a vehicle with suspended, cancelled or revoked registration.

      The following arrests and citations were reported by the Burke County Sheriff's Office for the past week: Thursday, Aug. 13 • Alberto Perez-Diaz, 24, of Roundtree Road, Dublin, was arrested for driving without a license.

Burke couple accused in robbery
Girlfriend arrested
      Deputies have arrested a woman accused of aiding her boyfriend in an armed hold-up. Patty Eleane Oglesby, 47, was taken into custody last Wednesday - one day after a Keysville man reported that she and her boyfriend, Ronald Henry Davis, 26, offered him a ride, then ordered him out of their car and robbed him at gunpoint.

Teenager goes to prison for break-in
      A local high school student will finish out his teenage years behind bars for breaking into a Waynesboro home. Curtis Cooper Jr., 18, entered a guilty plea Monday in Burke County Superior Court for theft by taking.

      A Waynesboro man was sentenced to probation for exchanging gunfire in the Huddle House parking lot last September.

Sardis man arrested for child molestation
      A Sardis man has been charged by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for molesting a child. Tuesday morning, Michael Anthony Lewis, 21, was jailed for having sex with an underage teenage girl, according to Gary Nicholson, special agent in charge of the Thomson GBI office.

Migrant worker sentenced for concealing death
      A migrant worker from Mexico was sentenced to three years in jail for helping hide the body of a murdered pregnant woman. Heriberto Garcia Juarez, 21, pleaded guilty in Burke County Superior Court Monday. He was charged with concealing the death of another and tampering with evidence for his role in moving the body of 32-yearold Alajandra Canche Reina.

Woman remains hospitalized following crash
     A Burke County woman narrowly escaped with her life after a Thursday morning accident that left her car mangled. Darlene Hines was heading towards Waynesboro from her home on Middleground Road when she apparently ran off the road, crossed back over and hit a ditch before smashing into a tree. She told responders that she laid down in her seat when she realized she was headed for the large tree, and they say it likely saved her life. The airbag in her 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, pictured above, did not deploy. "I think the only thing that saved her was that she laid down," Major Larry Lewis, of the Burke County Sheriff's Office, said. Hines was transported to MCGHealth Medical Center, where she remains in fair condition.

Man indicted for violent robberies
      A Burke County man accused of holding a gun to an elderly woman's neck during a home break-in has been indicted by a Superior Court grand jury. George Michael Hinton, 37, was indicted August 13 on a number of felonies including false imprisonment and two counts each of armed robbery and burglary.
