Music students perform
     Talented piano, guitar and vocal students recently presented their annual recital at Greenfork Baptist Church. The recital was held before a large crowd of parents, grandparents and community residents from Burke and Jenkins counties. Participants were, from left, front row: Anna Marie Blackburn, Riali Duncan, Beth Dasher, Hudson Sherrod, Tripp Parker and Blake Johnson; middle row: Colin Lambert, Hayley Parker, Lillian Reeves, Taylor Mizelle, Kristen Van DeRyt, Amberly Wiggins, Byron Williams, Will Dasher, Brant Albritton; and back row: Michelle Grab, Heather Lambert, Joy Hargrove, Abigail Quick, Tori Becton, Sammy Seay, Jessica Head, Jessica Herrmann, Tabitha Trent, Jenny Taylor and Rachel Welch. Exchange Club officers sworn in
     The Waynesboro Exchange Club celebrated another year of civic involvement at its annual banquet last Thursday. The 2009-2010 officers, pictured above, were sworn in, including board member Wayne Lively, president-elect Danny Bonnell, board members Johnny Casarez and Joe Morris, treasurer Lawson Glisson, past president Rusty Sanders and president Joe Jeselnik. Board members Bob Mallard, Don Crawford and Ralph Lynn and secretary Rick Marsh are not pictured. Lynn was also honored with the Program of the Year Award, and Anne Marie Kyzer was named Exchangite of the Year.

FFA, FFCLA attend leadership camp
      Forty-two students from Burke County FFA and FCCLA were part of more than 1,500 students who attended the FFAFCCLA Summer Leadership Camp 2008 at the Georgia FFAFCCLA Center. The theme for Summer Lead- ership Camp 2009 was "The Champion in Me," challenging students to stretch themselves and step outside their comfort zone.

Tinley, Renfroe to marry
      Waynesboro, Ga. - J. Lewis and Rosemary Tinley of Waynesboro, Georgia announce the engagement of their daughter, Susan Newman Tinley, to Lucas Will Renfroe, son of Karen Renfroe and the late Willard Renfroe Jr. of Sandersville, Georgia.

AmeriCorps takes top honors
     Burke Community Partnership's AmeriCorps program received top honors at Communities in Schools of Georgia's recent Training and Recognition Day in Macon. The "Supervisor's Award" was presented to Walter Hall, far right, and a "Special Member Recognition" was awarded to Monica Griffin, center. The entire program and staff were applauded as the "Best All Around Site." The AmeriCorps program provides tutoring services to 51 students at Waynesboro Primary and Blakeney Elementary schools, and under the leadership of Hall, coordinates BCP's HallowReads program, the Dr. Seuss Birthday Bash and a four-week summer reading camp. High flying flag
     Mr. James D. Smith, commander of the American Legion Post 120, was recently recognized by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution for his "exemplary patriotism" in the display of the United States flag. Pictured is David Hargrove, secretary of the Patrick Carr Rangers, as he presents Smith with the award.
