Sardis City Council to appoint new member

Sardis City Council will choose who fills the late Donna Robinson's position.

In a called meeting Monday, Sardis Mayor John Hamilton explained that city council, not the public, will decide who finishes Robinson's term.

According to the city charter, in the event that a single position needs to be filled, city council has sole responsibility of appointing a new member. A special election would be required only if more than one position remained unoccupied.

Council members are accepting suggestions from the public and plan to make a final decision at their regular meeting. The new council member will complete Robinson's term, which ends in January 2010.
