Burke Happenings Retired Educators The Burke County Retired Educators Association will hold a planning workshop, 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 30, at the Burke County Library. Members are asked to bring their handbooks. Records to be destroyed The Burke County Board of Education will destroy all student records relating to Special Education Services for individuals who attained the age of 22 during the period July 1, 2008-June 30, 2009. These records will be destroyed after Monday, Aug. 3, 2009. Anyone wishing to recover his/her personal records before they are destroyed may call Pam Lambert or Cathy Fowler at 706-554-6306 to schedule an appointment for pickup. Democratic Party meeting The Democratic Party of Burke County will meet 6 p.m. Monday, June 22, at the Burke County Library. The public is invited. Diabetic teaching A free diabetic teaching class will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at Burke Medical Center. Those participating are encouraged to bring a partner or any person who helps with food preparation. Call the dietary department at 706-554-4435 for more information. Space is limited. Blood Drive Shepeard Community Blood Center will have a blood drive 1-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, at the Wardlow Building at the corner of Seventh Street and Academy Avenue. All donors will receive a coupon for a free medium cup of Dippin' Dots Ice Cream. Legal Rights Conference The Burke County Chapter of the Georgia Clients Council will hold a Legal Rights Conference and Luncheon 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Saturday, June 27.
