Local girls have a chance to put their pompoms to use this summer. The Burke County High School cheerleaders will host a cheer clinic Monday- Wednesday, June 22-24, in the school's gymnasium. County extension agent Roosevelt McWilliams presented 10-year plaques to Master Gardeners for their dedicated service to the Burke County Master Gardener program at a banquet held Thursday, May 28. Pictured above are, from left, State Representative Gloria Frazier, Shirley Rogers, Lorraine Shubert, Jeanie Stephens, Edwin Stephens, Fran Freeman and McWilliams. Also recognized at the banquet were the Master Gardener interns who just completed 10 weeks of class work held here in Burke County. The program provided more than 40 hours of classroom and hands-on instruction in horticulture and related areas.
