Our longtime columnist Bill Shipp has retired. He notified us he would discontinue his weekly column effective May 19. I know many of our readers will miss him.

All of us at The True Citizen wish him all the best in his future endeavors.


Old Fella, Burke County's animal rescue, is offering free spay/neuter for local pets. The offer is limited to the first 100 qualified applicants.

To qualify, you must be a a resident of Burke County and provide proof of residency and proof of ownership of your cat or dog.

We received a letter from a man incarcerated in a Florida prison wanting us to publish an ad. He is looking for lady who understands and believes in a good man and one who is looking for a companion. The prisoner requested the woman send a photo of herself to him c/o of prison address.

Needless to say, we are not running his ad. Sorry, ladies!


There are two Vacation Bible Schools underway in Burke County this week. One is at Rosemont Heights Baptist Church and the other is at Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Botsford Baptist Church Vacation Bible School is Sunday-Friday from 6:30-9 p.m. for ages nursery-adults. Commencement on Friday.
