American Legion Post #120 member Joe Greiner salutes the American flag along side his fellow legionnaires during Waynesboro's Memorial Day service Monday. Community members gathered to remember the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice for Americans to live in freedom. Guest speaker Lt. General Robert E. Gray reminded the crowd that the patriotism and courage of those honored that day must be kept alive. "If words cannot repay the debt we owe these men and women, we must keep the faith that led them to make their sacrifice," he said. As is tradition in Waynesboro, crosses were placed along the roadsides to remember local fallen heroes. Crosses were also displayed in Sardis. Following the ceremony in Waynesboro, which marked J.D. Smith's last as commander of Post 120, members of American Legion Post #270 provided refreshments in the city park. More...
