Holiday burglaries continue
      More holidays were marred by burglaries. After reports of more than a dozen Christmastime break-ins, six more were reported New Year's week. A Sardis homeowner re- turned from a trip on New Year's Eve to find more than $20,000 of her belongings gone. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, burglars made of with silver, electronics and jewelry.

Armed robber leaves behind Christ pendant
      Waynesboro police are hoping a Jesus Christ pendant will lead them straight to an armed robber. The pendant and chain were left in the pocket of a coat the robber was wearing on New Year's Eve … when he leveled a shotgun at a Waynesboro woman who was getting gas at Golden Pantry.

Stinky sentence for fishy drug deal
      A Waynesboro teen may think twice when he smells trouble next time. Kadeem Wilkerson, 18, pleaded guilty last week to theft by taking, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance not in the original container and obstruction of an officer for his role in a phony drug deal.

      The streak A Hephzibah man was arrested for public indecency after the Richmond County Sheriff's Office passed on complaints about a naked man walking on Farmers Bridge Road just before midnight last Friday. Mother sentenced to time in sun
      A judge decided a young Burke County mother should feel the heat she exposed her child to last August. Last Wednesday, Tabatha Gail Skinner, 21, pleaded guilty to cruelty to children in the second degree for leaving her then 18- month-old son in a parked car at Wal-Mart in the summer heat.

      The following arrests and citations were reported by the Burke County Sheriff's Office for the past week: Saturday, Dec. 27 • Ernest Roy Rivers Jr., 44, of 208 Watson St., Apt. 13, Thomson, was arrested for battery against a person 65 years of age or older and simple battery. He was released on his own recognizance.
