The last brace in the Georgia Derby Championship finished up in the unseasonably mild weather Monday afternoon. Some 39 young dogs were entered in the stake, but Thunder House, handled by Steve Hurdle of Mississippi, outran the pack for the championship. The pointer female is owned by Doug Arthur of Eads, Tenn. Runnerup honors went to Erin's Stoney River, a pointer male owned and handled by Sean Derrig of Chicago, Ill. Judges Harold Ray and George Tracy watched the two dogs run in the same brace during the competition. The Georgia Derby Championship is just one of three derbies in the world that can qualify a dog to compete in the national championship.
