Bake sale

The women's group of Vidette Methodist Church will hold a bake sale 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 30, at Harveys Supermarkets.

Items include cakes, pies, brownies and more.

Proceeds benefit Linda Horton, who is in need of a liver transplant.

Diabetic course

A free diabetic course will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Burke Medical Center.

Space is limited. Call the dietary department at 706-554- 4435 to sign up.

Those attending are encouraged to bring a partner or person who handles their food preparation.

Republican party The Burke County Republican Party will meet Thursday, Aug. 28, at Mobley's Restaurant.

Dutch meal begins at 6 p.m. followed by the meeting at 7.

Retired educators

The Burke County Retired Educators Association will meet 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at the Burke County Senior Citizens Center.

Program guests will be school superintendent Linda Bailey and board chairman Johnny Jenkins.

All education retirees are invited.

BBQ dinners

The Unique Trucking Club Jesus Fed 5000 will hold a bake sale and BBQ dinner sale 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Southern Bank Pavilion on North Liberty Street.
