'Catfish' wanted by police

      Waynesboro police need the public's help netting a man they call "Catfish." Arthur "Catfish" Tolbert is wanted on a felony arrest warrant for allegedly stealing numerous tools from a local woodworker and pastor earlier this summer.

Teen injured in accidental shooting

      A Waynesboro teen has been hospitalized after an accidental shotgun blast went straight through his foot. The 14-year-old, who was in- jured just after 1 a.m. Saturday, initially told officers he'd been shot in a field behind Burkestone Apartments.

Augusta robbery tied to Burke residents

      Two Burke County residents have been arrested for robbing a Richmond County convenience store. Maurice Marcel Ward, 23, and Yolanda Tucker Crockett, 24, both of Waynesboro, were jailed for the Aug. 19 armed robbery of Savin-Haven on Mike Padgett Highway.

      A crime tip hotline is now in service at the Waynesboro Police Department. The line allows concerned citizens to leave tips on the department answering machine without talking to officers or leaving their names.

Teen arrested for attack on teacher

      A 15-year-old was taken into custody after he punched and choked a teacher. Deputies were called to River Quest, a psychoeducational school in Midville, Monday morning after the teacher tried to talk to the student about his classroom disruptions.
