Chamber seeks donations for teachers

Local businesses can help welcome new teachers to Burke County.

The Burke County Chamber of Commerce is now taking donations from chamber members to fill "welcome bags" for the 60 new teachers that just began work at Burke County's public and private schools.

Donations may include small gifts, gift certificates, coupons and school-related items.

"It's a great opportunity to promote your business and support our educators," executive director Ashley Roberts said, noting that the offer is exclusive to chamber members.

Contributions should be dropped by the chamber officer on East Sixth Street by Friday, Aug. 15.

The chamber will also host its annual "Business After Hours" on Aug. 21. The gathering is designed to bring together local business leaders and educators.
