Chamber seeks donations for teachers

      Local businesses can help welcome new teachers to Burke County. The Burke County Chamber of Commerce is now taking donations from chamber members to fill "welcome bags" for the 60 new teachers that just began work at Burke County's public and private schools.

Big rattler
     Hunter Reeves, 11, claimed this 5 foot, 6 inch timber rattler when his younger brother, Dalton, spotted it near a tree on Padgett's farm. The snake, which was shot with a .22, had eight buttons. Hunter is the son of Fred and Tracy Reeves and the grandson of Leslie and Judy Padgett.
