      Football fans can reserve their spots now to watch the defending region champions try for a repeat performance in the Bear Den. Season tickets are on sale for Burke County High School home football games and will be available for purchase until Aug.

Local heart recipients attend Transplant Games

      Two Burke County heart transplant recipients celebrated their second chance at life last week at the U.S. Transplant Games in Pittsburgh. James Cochran, 14 years out from his transplant, and Sherrell Gay, a six-year recipient, were among about 30 competitors who represented Team Georgia.

Evans named to All-Nation team
      Georgia Lightning not only took the state champion title in USSSA 13 and under baseball. They finished the season as runner-up in the World Series held in Johnson County, Tenn.

A big catch
      Twelve-year-old Tavaris Holmes was the lucky one last week when he went fishing with family in Burke County and reeled in the only catch of the day- this 8.62 pound bass that was 26 inches long. He is the son of Fannie Holmes of Waynesboro.
