"Y'all have the hospitality down perfect. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Thank you!"
I believe these comments from one of the participants summed up the sentiments of all who attended the Boss Hog Cook Off Friday and Saturday at Mr. Golf Carts Distribution Center.
What we do best in Burke County, is make folks feel welcome. We know how to throw a party and it was proven again at the Boss Hog Cook Off last Friday and Saturday.
There were so many volunteers and sponsors involved in making this event a tremendous success. A great big thanks is extended to James Eastmead, owner of Mr. Golf Carts, for hosting the event at his distribution center (the old Perfection complex off Highway 56).
Did you know Mr. Golf Carts is the largest distributor and refurbisher of golf carts in the Western hemisphere?
Also a huge thanks to Nan Palmer Lynch, Amy Lane Lively, Elizabeth Billips and Tim Lively. All four of these folks were our fearless leaders. They spent numerous hours preparing for the event and worked their "butts" off during the two day cook off.
I know them all well and they are already planning next year's event. They love our community and want it to be a better place for us to live, work and raise our families.

I want to extend a great big thank you to C.J. "Captain Jack" and Mary DeLaigle for being gracious hosts for the Girard School Reunion last Saturday night.
It was a delicious dinner catered by Mobley's Cafeteria with entertainment by the Glenn Watkins ensemble.
I want to tell you, these Girard folks know how to have a good time.
I have not seem many of the folks in a long time and it was so good to talk to them and reminisce. It was especially good to see Joanne Dixon, wife of Burke County Commissioner Jimmy Dixon.
Joanne recently had open heart surgery. She is looking terrific and doing well.
If you want to know who was there, see the related story in this week's True Citizen and view the photos on our web site sponsored by Girard Mall at www.thetruecitizen.com.

The weekend was topped off with a Mother's Day performance by Squre Parsons at Botsford Baptist Church.
If you missed it, you missed a real treat.
