Boss Hog Made the Big Leagues

Competitors, sponsors, vendors and attendees are already looking forward to next year's Boss Hog Cookoff. That's because, by all accounts, this year's event was extremely well planned and carried out. Waynesboro has quickly risen to prominence in the world of big-time competitive barbecue events. Sanctioning by the Kansas City Barbeque Society as well as recognition as a state championship drew 30 teams and forty certified judges from all over the southeast.

The internet has been full of chatter, through e-mails and on web logs (blogs), about the success of the event. A lot of hard work by many volunteers made it happen. But, it is clear from the comments we have read that special recognition should go to three young women in particular. They are Nan Lynch and Amy Lively of the First National Bank and Elizabeth Billips of The True Citizen. Nan and Amy are newcomers to the event but provided extraordinary leadership and organizational ability. Elizabeth is a veteran of all three cook-offs and her experience and dedication were invaluable again this year.

We also extend recognition to James and Jay Eastmead of Mr. Golf Carts, whose generous donation of the site was vital to the event's success. Tim Lively, a local barbecue aficionado and experienced KCBS judge lent his considerable expertise in organizing the judging and helped make a smooth transition from a backyard competition to a professional one.

Waynesboro and Burke County, for very positive reasons, have gotten some big time recognition.
