Bears advance to second round in state baseball

      The Bears needed a solid performance from their leading right-hander, and he didn't disappoint. Burke County High School senior Trent Hillis threw his way to two wins and helped the Bears advance to the second round of the AAA state playoffs last weekend.

Golfers swing into top 10 at state

      Both the boys and girls golf teams at Burke County High School claimed top 10 finishes at the Georgia High School Association's AAA state tourna- ment last week. Bears bring home medals from state track meet

      Every Bear that Burke County sent to the state meet came home with at least one medal dangling from his neck. The Burke County High School boys sent three track and field athletes to Albany last weekend for the Georgia High School Association's AAA state meet and claimed four top-eight finishes.

Gettin' started
      Twenty Spartans hit the field last week as spring training for the 2008 football season got underway. Head coach Buddy Sorrow said the guys have put in great effort so far and that he's pleased with their response to the new program.

Spartans put up their bats

      After a pair of losses to Windsor Academy, baseball season ended for Edmund Burke Academy. The Spartans were eliminated from the AA state playoffs in the first round after being defeated by the Knights 9- 7 in the first game and 6-2 in the second over the weekend.
