Sowing the seed
Jacob Blankenship, Holland Wiersma and Makenzie Long plant cotton seeds during the Ag in Classroom event held at the Southeast Georgia Agricultural Research and Education Center near Midville. The Burke County Extension Service, along with a host of volunteers, welcomed around 350 youngsters from BES, S.G.A. Elementary, Faith Christian School and Edmund Burke Academy last week to show them where their food and clothing originate. Aside from hearing about row crops, the students learned about outdoor and boating safety, gardening, dairy cattle and more. They will return in the fall as fourth graders to see the crops harvested.
