Eleven arrested in WPD, BCSO roadblocks Nearly a dozen motorists were arrested in separate roadblocks organized by Waynesboro police and Burke County deputies. Five of them were booked into jail early Sunday morning, thanks to two police roadblocks in Waynesboro that stretched from midnight to after 4 a.m. According to Sgt. Mike Johnson, 106 vehicles were checked at points on South Liberty Street near Dairy Queen and on Highway 56 at Burke Veterans Parkway. In addition to the arrests, citations were issued for everything from headlight violations to expired tags. Numerous agencies assisted police, including the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, Wrens Police Department, Georgia State Patrol, Department of Natural Resources and two canine units. "More roadblocks can be expected over the summer," Sgt. Johnson said. Three days prior, deputies and state patrolmen arrested a half-dozen motorists at Story Mill and Quaker roads with assistance from the GBI and Waynesboro police. "Basically, we were trying to get drunk drivers off the road," Chief Deputy James Hollingsworth said, noting that most of the drivers were arrested for drugs or alcohol. |
