By Elizabeth Billips lizbillips@yahoo.com

A Waynesboro man was taken to the emergency room after a passing motorist hit his bicycle but didn't stop.

According to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department, 49-year-old Sammy Collins Jr. was riding his bike on Herman Lodge Boulevard around 11:30 a.m. Sunday when he was sideswiped.

Officers said Collins was not seriously injured but did appear to be intoxicated. They believe he changed lanes just as the car was attempting to pass him.

Witnesses reported seeing a burgundy Dodge Intrepid swerve, then turn left on Washington Drive and speed away.

A side mirror and headlight from the car were found at the scene.

Anyone with information about the driver's identity or location of the car is asked to call officers at 706-554-8029.
