Legacy of Christian service
Portersville Missionary Baptist Church celebrated a "Legacy of Christian Service" program recently at the Burke County Office Park. The honorees were recognized for their longevity of church membership and Christian service in the community. The celebration program was emceed by Kimberely Scott, anchorwoman from WJBF Channel 6, featured music by the Bright Stars of Augusta, Christen Sapp and Hillcrest School and a praise dance by "Youth of God" directed by Jolanda Lovett. The honorees were crowned "Kings and Queens of Portersville" and each received royal regalia. The honorees are, from left, seated: Celestine Sharpe, Shephard Archie and Cecelia Kirkland; and standing: Lorraine Shubert, Irene Sams, Frank Sams, Willie James Jackson Sr., the Rev. Willie J. Evans Jr., Eddie L. Sills and Azalene Young. Not pictured are Hattie B. Carpenter, Willie Gwyn, Katheryn Sills and Louise Sills.
