The Lady Bears must play better under pressure ... much better.
The Burke County High School girls golf team not only shot their lowest round of the year at the Region 3-AAA tournament Monday, but turned in the lowest score in Burke County girls golf history.
The Lady Bears shaved 12 strokes off of their previous best round to win the region runnerup trophy with a 183. They competed against eight other schools in the tournament.
Burke County High School came in just three shots behind region champion Thomson High School.
Jorie Marchman's 91 and Mallorie Shaw's 92 helped the team claim their spot in the state tournament to be held May 5 at The Trophy Club of Atlanta.
"I couldn't be more excited for them," coach Wade Marchman said. "They've worked hard and they were focused."
He added that Jorie Marchman continually improved through the season and Shaw's score was her personal best.
The girls will now put in some serious practice time as they prepare to play a different type of course at the state tournament.
