Playoffs in sight for Bears baseball
By Anne Marie Kyzer annemariek@thetruecitizen.com

It all comes down to this Friday.

The Burke County High School baseball team will face Benedictine Military School for their last region game of the regular season.

If they win, they'll make the playoffs. If they lose, the Bears will pack up their gear for the season.

"This is the biggest game of the season," coach Sean Tiernan said. "Whoever wins this gets to go on."

The Bears won two of their last three region games to put them in contention for a spot in the playoffs.

Though they fell to South Effingham High School 14-1 last week, they beat Hephzibah 7-0 and Richmond Hill 1-0. The Bears got in some batting practice in a 10-0 non-region win over Jefferson County as well.

Coach Tiernan feels like his Bears have a shot as long as they keep their heads in the game.

"As long as the boys are focused, I feel good about our chances."

When the teams faced off earlier this month, Benedictine won 2-1. Now, the Bears must beat them by at least one run to put the Cadets out of the picture since a Burke County victory would give the two schools similar region records.
