From the Blotter Tour de Toilet A Girard woman was not cheerful after the Tour de Georgia came through town. She called The True Citizen Tuesday afternoon to report that a member of the tour's entourage stopped in her yard to "relieve" himself while tracking the bikers to Augusta. She said her husband yelled at the man, who just finished his business before jumping back in his car and continuing along with the tour. The woman suggested that authorities consider putting porta potties up for future events of this nature. Bad timing Police found a set of stolen lawn furniture in a Waynesboro yard, but the homeowner claims to have bought it at a flea market. According to investigator Claude Wade, a four-piece set of white furniture was stolen from a Victory Drive home earlier this month. Last week, the newly painted burgundy furniture was spotted outside a Bates Road yard and linked to the stolen goods by a missing foot on one of the chairs. The owner still had the broken-off foot in his possession, and it proved a perfect match. The homeowner told police she had no idea the furniture was stolen when she bought it. The problem? Officers say the purchase date she provided was prior to the date the furniture was stolen. The case remains open with charges pending. Wrong answer A Waynesboro man was arrested Friday after running his car into a fence on Farmers Bridge Circle. Andrew Randoll Mills, 20, was behind the wheel in a single car wreck that took out six sections of fence and three trees. According to a report filed at the Burke County Sheriff's Office, Mills repeatedly put his hands in his pockets after being told to keep them visible. Deputies searched him and found a baggie of marijuana. When asked when he'd last smoked, Mills answered, "About the same time of my last beer." He was arrested for DUI (drugs and alcohol), possession of marijuana, driving too fast for conditions and no insurance. Stripped Burglars caused nearly $20,000 in damage at the Head Start center on Blakeney Street. According to a report filed at the Waynesboro Police Department, the burglars broke into the old gymnasium, which was being used for storage, and stripped the copper wiring and metal from three air conditioning units that had been put there for safekeeping. Police say they also stole a Cub Cadet tractor and two water fountains that belong to the Burke County Board of Education. Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at 706- 554-8029. |
