Cubs finish third on diamond

They didn't win the title, but they won more than any other Cubs baseball team in the school's history.

The Burke County Middle School baseball team finished up the season third in the region with 12 wins, six losses and one tie.

The Cubs lost out in the semifinals of the region playoffs to South Effingham Middle School, which went on to win the region championship.

"It was a great season," Cubs coach Billy Marchman said. "I feel we are turning the corner and becoming more competitive each year by getting fundamentally better and improving work habits. I am surrounded by quality players who work to improve everyday."

Marchman called it a special season and said he hopes next year brings as much success.
