Lady Cubs take region track title
THREE IN A ROW
By Anne Marie Kyzer annemariek@thetruecitizen.com

The Lady Cubs have done it again.

For the third straight year, the Burke County Middle School girls track team won the Coastal Empire Region championship, beating out nine other schools for the title.

BCMS eighth-grader Keyana Boatwright earned more points than any other girl at the region meet, to be named high-point individual.

Boatwright claimed firstplace finishes in the triple jump, the 100-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Girls track coach Monika Mobley said Boatwright was also the anchor on the 400-meter relay team, which took first with a time of 51.55 seconds.

The championship marked Mobley's fifth consecutive as the BCMS girls coach, having claimed the title each year she has coached the team since 2002. She assisted with high school track in 2004 and 2005.

The BCMS boys finished as runners-up at the region meet.

The boys were led by eighth-grader Montres Kitchens, who recorded first-place finishes in the triple jump and 100-meter hurdles.
