Boss Hog sign-up extended to May 2 Cooking teams have a few extra weeks to sign up for the May 9-10 Boss Hog Cook-off. Nan Lynch, chairman of the Downtown Organization of Retailers, says the registration deadline has been extended to May 2 in hopes of meeting the 30-team mark. As of Tuesday morning, 17 teams were signed up and five more were verbally committed. "It's so much fun to get the mail every morning and see another team committed," Lynch said. "The response from out-oftown teams has been overwhelming, but we really want to get more locals out there cooking with them." The competition, which is sanctioned through the Kansas City Barbeque Society, is also an official state championship. The $10,000 purse will be doled out to first through 10th place winners in four categories: pork, chicken, ribs and brisket - with the grand champion pocketing an additional $2,000.
Applications are available at First National Bank, The True Citizen, William Mizell Ford, Delta Termite and Pest Control and Dairy South, or online at www.bosshogcookoff.com. The team list is also updated daily on the web site. |
