Lady Cubs take region track title

      The Lady Cubs have done it again. For the third straight year, the Burke County Middle School girls track team won the Coastal Empire Region championship, beating out nine other schools for the title.

Cubs finish third on diamond

      They didn't win the title, but they won more than any other Cubs baseball team in the school's history. The Burke County Middle School baseball team finished up the season third in the region with 12 wins, six losses and one tie.

      Edmund Burke Academy's golf team earned back-to-back first place finishes its last two times on the course. On March 27, the Spartans shot 321 at Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, defeating Thomas Jefferson Academy (322) and Bulloch Academy (353).

      James Harvard bagged two turkeys with one shot on opening day in Burke County. Harvard killed the two gobblers, pictured above, on a morning hunt near Vidette. The first weighed 20 pounds and had an 11-inch beard and 1 ¼-inch spurs.
