Comments from our readers: Can someone explain to me why a DUI carries more of a fine and punishment than someone caught with the possession of illegal drugs. I swear the longer I live the more I'm convinced that there is no room for common sense in our legal system. To William Mizell Ford - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the flags! Sardis could be a beautiful bedroom community to Augusta, such nice, caring and friendly people. But, have you driven through? There is so much trash and junk laying all over this town, not to mention houses that are falling down, decaying or no one lives in. It's no wonder no one wants to move there. Please print more of Les Jenkins Jr.'s guest columns. They are so enriching. To the comment on the Sardis Police Department patrolling all over the place. This is nothing new, it's all the time. The police don't even know the laws, just ask one. Don't bother calling either, if they do show up they won't do anything about the situation but push it under the rug. It is sad to see women in Burke County with an over-abundance of children in a shopping cart, an EBT card in the other hand and an Escalade or a Chevy Tahoe in the parking lot. Why are women allowed to have large amounts of children and receive EBT which could be given to the elderly or the war veterans? I guess women don't have morals anymore. Please explain to me why, when we do not allow one man to run our nation for more than two elected terms, we would allow one man to reign over the department that is suppose to serve and protect for eight terms. The drug situation in Burke County is out of control. Sheriff Coursey, do us all a favor and retire. It's obvious that your plan is having little effect on this growing problem. This comment is in reference to the remarks made about our mayor's Liberty Street property. Has anyone taken a look at Burke Memorial Gardens? It looks like a landfill for construction materials. Construction trash, or any other, should be taken to our landfill and not burned. I am embarrassed and saddened about the condition of the place where I visit my loved ones daily. You keep having polls on restaurants. We need a good fast food seafood place here. Maybe a Captain D's, a Red Lobster or even an extension of T's. We have so many chicken & hamburger places now. An Arby's would be good, too. We have lots of nice empty buildings they could go into. Maybe the mayor could get one of them to fix up his old building and move in there. Also, he needs to clean up the area next to the cemetery. It's an eyesore for visitors to the schools to see, plus the ones of us that have to look at it every school day. Above the law? Judge Ed Grunewald came very close to being struck by two automobiles as he jay walked across Liberty Street from his office to the courthouse. Remember cross walks and traffic lights!
