Public hearing postponed to May 5
For retirement complex

      The City of Waynesboro has postponed a public hearing to discuss a zoning change necessary for the development of a retirement complex on the old Waynesboro Elementary School site. The meeting, which was originally scheduled for Monday, April 7, will now be held Monday, May 5 at 6 p.m.

Boss Hog sign-up extended to May 2

      Cooking teams have a few extra weeks to sign up for the May 9-10 Boss Hog Cook-off. Nan Lynch, chairman of the Downtown Organization of Retailers, says the registration deadline has been extended to May 2 in hopes of meeting the 30-team mark.

New extension coordinator headed to Burke

      Burke County should soon have a new county coordinator for its Cooperative Extension Service. Although University of Georgia officials remain mum about their top candidate, they said the position should soon be filled, according to Southeast District Extension Director Lannie Lanier.

Library holds dramatic presentation April 16

      Vicki Gaynier of Ohio will perform a one-person dramatic presentation of the life of Corrie TenBoom 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, at the Burke County Library auditorium. TenBoom, along with her father and sister, were imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II for being Christian.
